Frequently asked questions

What was the Paycheck Protection Program?
The PPP was a federal loan program run by the Small Business Administration in 2020 and 2021 to help businesses and nonprofits keep paying workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. Loans were made by banks and other lenders and could be forgiven if most of the money went to payroll.
Is PPP loan data public?
Yes. The Small Business Administration publishes data on every PPP loan, including the borrower name, location, loan amount, lender, jobs reported and forgiveness amount. We show names for businesses and organizations, but not for sole proprietors, self-employed individuals or independent contractors, and we do not show street addresses.
How many PPP loans were forgiven?
Of $793B in approved PPP loans, $763B has been forgiven (96%), according to SBA data.
How do I look up a PPP loan?
Use the search box to find a business by name, or open a state, county, city or ZIP code page to see every loan made to borrowers there, sorted from largest to smallest.
