About IRS Auctions

Internal Revenue Service

The IRS seizes and sells property to collect unpaid federal taxes. IRS Auctions lists upcoming public auctions and sealed-bid sales of real estate, vehicles and other goods, plus guaranteed bidder searches for some homes.

How to buy

  1. 1Read the notice of sale for the minimum bid, the date, time and place, and the payment terms.
  2. 2Inspect the property if an inspection time is offered.
  3. 3Bring the required payment (often a cashier's check) to the sale or submit a sealed bid as instructed.
  4. 4For real estate, the former owner can redeem the property within 180 days after the sale.

What is an IRS guaranteed bidder?
For some properties the IRS looks for a buyer who agrees in advance to bid at least the minimum price at the sale. The listing explains how to apply.
Can the owner get the property back after an IRS sale?
Yes, for real estate. Under federal law the owner can redeem the property within 180 days after the sale by paying the purchase price plus interest.
Can I bid on IRS listings through DatenUS?
No. We do not run auctions or accept bids. Use the official site linked on this page to register, bid and pay.
