Frequently asked questions

What does a serious violation mean?
OSHA cites a serious violation when there is a substantial probability that death or serious physical harm could result from a hazard the employer knew or should have known about.
Are OSHA penalties final?
Not always. Employers can contest citations, and penalties are often reduced in settlements. The current penalty reflects changes recorded so far.
How do I report an unsafe workplace?
File a complaint with OSHA at osha.gov or call 1-800-321-6742. Workers have the right to report hazards without retaliation.
