Who can qualify
Run by: U.S. Department of Agriculture, Food and Nutrition Service
- Households whose income and resources are under federal limits. Most households must pass a gross income test (130% of the poverty guidelines) and a net income test (100%).
- Households with a member who is 60 or older or has a disability only need to meet the net income test.
- Some adults without dependents must meet work requirements to receive SNAP for more than 3 months in 3 years.
- Most U.S. citizens qualify if they meet the rules; many lawfully present noncitizens qualify after meeting extra conditions.
